R.P Félix JAFFUEL was born on March, 25th
1874, in a very Christian family from the Lozère in the small village Crouzet, parish St Sauveur de Ginestoux, Diocese of Mende. He left for Chili in 1892 as
postulant.
He took the cloth on June, 10th 1892 as novice, at Los Perales and became teacher at Santiagocollege in 1894..
..During his many years as teacher, he tought Biology, History, Algebra, Geometry, Cosmography, Philosophy, the History of Literature.
At the "Cours des Lois" in Valparaiso he was during many years in charge of classes of Philosophy of Law, History of Law, and of Canon Law...When in 1912 he became Director of the cursus for Engineers and Architects, he simply sit next to the pupils to improve his knowledge on higher Mathematics..
..In Chili, together with Pastors Nathanaël Costes, Anastase Pirion and Rémi Bros, he had managed to put together beautifull collections of Biology, which unfortunately were ruined in a fire which destroyed the college of Santiago on January, 7th 1920..
..The "Revista chilena de Historia Natural" who considered him as one of his colleagues, published in 1936 a long note regarding his contribution to Chilean scientifical research. His name was known beyond the Andes. Eight days before his death, he received in Valparaiso his diploma of corresponding member of the Institute of Science, Letters and Art of CAMPINAS, State of SAO PAULO...
The goal of his walks, his trips, which brought him sometimes up to 5.500 m altitude, was the research of plants, animals or rare or unknown insects. And when fortunately he would discover some, he would immediately go on his knees, put his hands together, to thank God.. "
He passed away at the Noviciat of Montgeron (near Paris) on May, 3rd 1939.
